Winter Storage
When winter rolls around, your pop up truck camper will need to be stored properly in order to avoid any damage the winter months can cause. The best time to perform winter maintenance is right after your last trip or a few weeks before the beginning of winter. Preparing your pop up truck camper for winter is necessary every year and will help prolong the life of your pop up camper. The following steps are some basic maintenance tasks that you should perform annually before winter comes in.
- Wash the exterior of your pop up camper and inspect for rust damage. Repair any exterior parts as needed.
- Clean the interior thoroughly, looking out for food stains. Perform interior repairs as necessary.
- Remove all your accessories and items from your pop up truck camper, including all electrical devices and kitchen equipment. Store these items indoors. Take out everything, especially aerosol cans!
- Oil up all motorized parts.
- Perform tire maintenance as necessary.
- Inspect the breaks.
- Inspect all electrical connections.
- Inspect the underside of the pop-up and repair any holes or other damage from travel.
- Take out the battery and store it fully charged.
- Insects can get into vents, so cover them up with plastic wrap.
- Check all water storage units such as the fresh water tank, water heater, toilets etc.. and remove all water from them. Drain all pipes as well. Pour nontoxic RV antifreeze into all the water lines. Make sure that you use special nontoxic RV antifreeze.
- Implement hot water heater bypass systems.
